Experimentation with shapes taken from Celtic art and design.
Starting with the dissection and simplification of Celtic patterns into a cross shape (img. 1) I began to replicate and expand it to create symmetric patterns, keeping the design element white whilst changing gradient backgrounds to see the effect. (img. 2, 3)
In some cases I have tried to fuse the Celtic symbol together with Tartan like elements (img. 5 ), and in others I wanted to merge the design with an Islamic art feel. (img. 5, 6)
Following on from this I began to bring these elements into After Effects for experiment with animation as well as printing some of the designs onto fabric. (img. 7, 8)
From here I utilised the initial shape into forming letters and to develop a font. Each part of the letter is taken from the initial shape, changing the length in order to create the different lines for each character. (img. 9, 10, 11, 12)
